Direct fit
Match the label to the artwork size when you do not want a mat, for example an 8 × 10 in frame for an 8 × 10 in print.
Inches to centimeters
Standard frame sizes are defined in inches. Convert each one to exact centimeters and see which metric labels match.

Exact conversion
Multiply each inch dimension by 2.54 to get the exact size in centimeters. Retail labels are rounded, so confirm the usable opening before ordering.
Choose well
A frame label describes what fits inside, not the outside edge. Decide which layer you are matching before ordering.
Match the label to the artwork size when you do not want a mat, for example an 8 × 10 in frame for an 8 × 10 in print.
Choose one or two sizes larger so the mat can overlap the artwork by 3–6 mm on each edge.
Check proportions before matching: a 4 × 6 photo has a different shape from an 8 × 10 frame and needs a mat or cropping.
